Scotney Castle Garden

Scotney Castle Garden in Lamberhurst is a National Trust property, a 10 minute drive from Bedgebury Camping.

Scotney is really a tale of two halves: the old and the new.

The earliest recorded owner of the manor was Lambert de Scoteni in 1137, with the Old Castle at Scotney dating back to the 14th Century. It was once a medieval, moated manor house and all that remains can be seen resting on an island in the middle of the small lake. At the top of the hill, the New Castle at Scotney, built in the Tudor style in 1837, overlooks its predecessor.

The estate, consisting of meadows, park and woodland, covers nearly 800 acres and provides an impressive display of colour throughout most of the year. Swathes of spring flowers are followed by a feast for the eyes when the rhododendrons, azaleas and kalmia flower in May/June, with hydrangeas providing vibrancy at the end of the summer.

If you would like to incorporate a visit to Scotney Castle into your holiday/short break, then why not consider staying at nearby Bedgebury Camping which is situated on the edge of Goudhurst, a picturesque and historic village in the Garden of England, a short drive away.
